The project “2x2 Windows” is a collaboration between Vietnamese multimedia composer Tam Thi Pham, Japanese dancer Minori Sumiyoshiyama. It is an improvised networked music and dance performance project.
During the Covid-19 pandemic our mobility is limited and it’s difficult to meet each other. We all suffer this lack of freedom, so people have experimented with many different modi of online-performances. Are these online-performances just makeshift-substitutes for the real-life events? Or, will the necessities of our "new normal" survive and give rise to more diverse and advanced online-performances?
For artists like us, who live in different areas, online collaboration frees us from geographical constraints. We have been testing different approaches since May this year, overcoming the time difference between Hamburg and Yokohama and technical issues with video and audio streamings. Our experiment in creating a new online platform is still in progress, but from the end of August 2020, we would like to open the creative process and share our experiences and our journey through this digital world with you - our audience.
"Good improvisation is about listening reacting in the moment, creating and supporting the idea of others"
